Welcome to The Rowan Practice.
Rowan is a new regional expansion of our existing services – The Invertay Practice in Dundee, and The St Andrews Practice in Northeast Fife, which were respectively established in 2019 and 2023. Together we are a team of 34 highly specialist mental health clinicians including: Clinical Psychologists; Consultant Psychiatrists; Occupational Therapists; Speech & Language Therapists; and Educational Psychologists. We provide a range of in-person mental health and neurodiversity services across our three practice bases in northeast Scotland and offer remote services across the UK.
The Rowan Practice is located within a beautiful green space in Inverurie, 20 minutes drive from Aberdeen City. This is an ideal base that allows us to bring accessible in-person high quality services to the Grampian region. We are initially offering multi-disciplinary Autism and ADHD assessments for adults. Our other services, including assessments for children and young people, can be undertaken at our Dundee and Fife practices. Over time, we hope to develop The Rowan Practice so that we can provide our full range of services for Grampian communities.
What is different about us?
Our team is made up of clinicians with the highest levels of qualification in mental health and years of prior and often concurrent employed NHS experience. Our dedicated team – some of whom are themselves neurodivergent – are deeply committed to understanding, supporting, and empowering individuals with diverse neurological, cognitive, emotional, and sensory experiences. We recognize and celebrate the vast spectrum of human variation, firmly believing that neurodiversity is a cornerstone of our collective strength. Equally, we recognise that a person’s neurotype can vastly complicate their lived experiences.
We believe the assessment process is as important as the outcome. It should be an opportunity to tell your story and to work with your clinicians to consider the ways in which your unique experiences may have been underpinned by your neurotype. Our Autism and ADHD assessments are not only of “gold standard”, they exceed the standards set out in NICE/SIGN guidelines. They are always multi-disciplinary, meaning a minimum of two experienced clinicians from different disciplines will be involved in understanding, considering, and helping you to reflect on your unique personal profile and experiences.
Our approach goes beyond diagnosis and provides direct pathways to an extensive range of post-diagnostic services that reflect our team’s broad skill set and deep understanding of neurodivergent individuals. This enables us to offer highly personalised ongoing support for those who wish to continue their journey with us. We endeavour to advocate with you (rather than for you) and deliver (or help you access) supports that impact directly on your daily functioning and quality of life.
Our sister practice, The St Andrews Practice, is regulated by Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS), which enables it to offer additional services for adults that involve medical doctors such as ADHD prescribing overseen by Consultant Psychiatrists. We work closely with them to enable a direct pathway for our local clients to access their services remotely. Find out more by clicking on the link below.
